Landsberg – The last home game of the Landsberg X-Press turned out to be a lesson for coach Gabriel Chambers’ team. The Rangers from Munich won with 52:27. This means that the X-Men will probably end the short season in the Regionalliga Süd in last place in the table. 500 spectators celebrate the team anyway and will sorely miss the kick-off in the next few months.
At the center of the game was a player from the guests: US quarterback Keith Hills played a passing game that the home side had nothing to oppose at the beginning of the game. The former Landsberg X-Man Carsten “Ossi” Brosch aptly describes the first few minutes: “The pass defense was not well developed today. Both parts of the Rangers team were easy to think about and we were behind in no time at 0:26. “
Often times, the X-Press defense didn’t seem to know what was happening to them. Keith Hills was always a buyer for his fine passes and the X-Men were mostly late. Time and again the egg was carried into the end zone by the Rangers. And on the offensive, the absence of Anthony Morris, who had obtained a ban in Ingolstadt, was sorely missed. “As a result, our alternatives in the running game were very limited,” says X-Press President Markus Gruberbauer. “But I still don’t want to be too harsh with my boy. Everything just worked out for the opponent today. “
With a hearty 7:39 the X-Men went in half-time and a debacle seemed possible. Ossi Brosch puts his finger in the wound: “The offensive was in action far too short for the defensive line to take a breather. There were too few first downs for the X-Press. Both parts of the team could not relieve each other. “
After the break it seemed to go on seamlessly, the Rangers carried the leather lightning fast in the end zone to 7:46. Again, the X-Press offensive to quarterback Lukas Saurwein didn’t get a good drive, but a failed snap ended everyone after the end. Keith Hills did not let himself be bitten for long, threw a beautiful long pass and surprised the intermediate result of 7:52. At least the extra kick was blocked.
Lukas Saurwein now seemed seized with the honor and heralds the best phase of the X-Men with a long run: only 13:52. Keith Hills, on the other hand, had done his day’s work and made room for the backup quarterback. In the last quarter, the guests took it easy, time to correct the results. Coach Chambers managed the touchdown at 20:52. Shortly before the end, Stefan Ludwig was able to bring another successful pass from Saurwein into the end zone and Hannes Haug put the final line under a one-sided game with the extra point. At 27:52, the final result was still conciliatory.
Happy with the season
No reason for pessimism for Markus Gruberbauer: “I think we can be satisfied with the season overall, after all we had a lot of injuries. It’s a shame for the fans that the season is over so quickly because we all enjoyed the home games. After this lesson against the Rangers, we know what to do and where to improve for the next season. Hopefully it will start again in April 2022. “
However, the Landsberger X-Men still have to work one time. Next weekend, the match at Munich Cowboys II marks the end of the season that is far too short.
