Rhône. Pro and anti nuclear manifest this Saturday in Lyon
This Saturday, September 25, pro and anti nuclear each organizing their side rallies in Lyon. While the EDF company wishes to extend the operation of the Bugey nuclear power plant for another ten years, many associations are opposed to this project.
A banner on the Wilson Bridge
In order to alert the population to the “nuclear risk”, the demonstrators deploy a banner on the Pont Wilson at 9:30 am which will be visible from the quays of the Rhône. A press point will take place at 11:30 am, in the presence of representatives of Greenpeace Lyon, the Stop Bugey Coordination and the “Sortir Du Nuclear” Network. Sylvain Godinot, deputy mayor of Lyon in charge of ecological transition and Philippe Guelpa-Bonaro, vice-president of the Metropolis will be present. In addition, a large demonstration is scheduled for October 3 in Saint Vulbas, at the foot of the power plant.

In contrast, the 5th edition of the “Stand Up For Nuclear” event will be held at Place Carnot between 10 am and 5 pm. Organized by the association Les Voix du Nucléaire, “the gathering will allow the general public to discuss the role of nuclear power in the fight against global warming, in an educational process open to all.
Emphasis will be placed on the importance of launching the renewal of the current reactors ”, we read in the press release. Zion Lights, the former British spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion who became a pro-nuclear activist, will be in attendance.
