The Austrian national soccer team of women also clearly won their second game in the World Cup qualification. After the 8: 1 at the start in Latvia, the selection of team boss Irene Fuhrmann prevailed on Tuesday in Skopje against North Macedonia 6: 0 (3: 0). Austria presented itself sovereign in both halves of the game.
As on Friday in Liepaja, Marie-Therese Höbinger scored the first ÖFB goal (12th). Nicole Billa increased after a foul on Sarah Zadrazil with a penalty to 2-0 (20th). Verena Hanshaw was delighted with a remarkable goal for the comfortable half-time result.
After the break, record holder Sarah Puntigam hit the crossbar in her 111th international match, Höbinger then hit the bar, before Hanshaw with a direct free kick (65th). Billa scored two more goals (67th, 71st) and made things very clear. “Our team did a similar job, it was present from the first minute,” praised team boss Fuhrmann in an interview with ORF.

In Group D, Austria is temporarily at the top of the table, but favorites England are still in action in Luxembourg that evening. Northern Ireland and Latvia are also dueling. The Austrian national team will continue on October 22nd with their first home game against Luxembourg, four days later they will have their first duel away with European Championship participants Northern Ireland.

The group winners are fixed and qualified for the 2023 World Cup in Australia. The runners-up in the nine groups have a play-off chance of up to three further World Cup starting places.
