SIG Strasbourg has resigned head coach Lassi Tuovi and assistants Romain Leroy and Frank Kuhn until the end of the 2022-2023 season, the team announced on Tuesday. The French club were set to confirm the deal with the Finnish boss, according to Eurohoops sources.
Tuovi, 34, led the French team to Final 8 of the Basketball Champions League last season. Strasbourg finally finished fourth in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. At the national level, the place of the Jeep Elite Pro A Final Four was offset by the defeat in the semi-final against LDLC ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne.
He was appointed head coach in early 2020 after stints as assistant to Vincent Collet and Henrik Dettmann. His other assistant jobs are Besiktas and BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque. He is also the current assistant to the Finnish senior national team.
Strasbourg is one of the teams directly placed in the regular season of the next edition of the BCL after the strong campaign of the previous season. They dominated Group E in the 2020-21 regular season as favorites Rytas and Peristeri were knocked out. AEK and Turk Telekom became their victims of the round of 16, despite the departure of Group K with three consecutive losses.
