New partnership agreement between the Council of Europe and the City of Strasbourg
The general secretary of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Buric, and the Mayor of Strasbourg, Jeanne Barseghian signed a new Partnership Agreement strengthen the long-standing cooperation between the two sides, updating the 2010 agreement.
“Since 1949, the City of Strasbourg and the Council of Europe have maintained close ties. The presence of the 47-member organization in Strasbourg directly contributes to the city’s European identity and to its status as European capital. Today we are giving new impetus to our cooperation to jointly address the current democratic, social and environmental challenges, ”said the Secretary-General.
Under the terms of this agreement, the Council of Europe and the City of Strasbourg undertake to continue their joint reflection and to make Strasbourg a testing ground for innovative local policies. The concrete actions will include the promotion of the heritage, the history and the action of the Council of Europe, in particular by the setting up of exhibitions and events, work on a common signage also drawing attention. on the European Heritage Label awarded to the City of Strasbourg in 2015 for its European Quarter, and the Council of Europe’s contribution to the city’s deliberations on ways to strengthen its European and international position.
