a gauge of 7,500 spectators and a PCR test for non-residents
The 2020 edition had been canceled following the Covid epidemic. This year, the 78th Monaco Grand Prix, which counts for the F1 world championship, will take place on May 23 with a limited capacity.
This is excellent news for Formula 1 fans. Monaco Grand Prix will take place this May 23 (with tests on the 21st and 22nd). The public will be present, the gauge, that is to say the number of spectators, has been made public by the government of the principality. There will therefore be 7,500.
“It is important for the Principality that the Grand Prix be held in the best possible conditions, it is important for economic reasons, and for the image of Monaco“explained the Minister of State, Pierre Dartout.

A PCR test, but not for everyone
Spectators coming from outside the Principality will have to present a PCR test of less than 72 hours and no question of cheating, the government would have provided enough to spot negative “falsified” tests. Two levels of control are also announced, first at the border (the station is also concerned), then to enter the perimeter of the Grand Prix.
This level of 7,500 people is quite exceptional in the health context, while in France outdoor sports establishments reconnect with the public on May 19, but with a limit strictly limited to 1,000 spectators.
These “7,500 tickets” corresponding to one in three places in order to allow distance.
This year, no question of fan zone. There will also be no “standing” grandstand. The return of spectators after the events may be the most difficult point to manage to avoid crowds.
A Grand Prix, the 1st in the world with so many audiences since the pandemic
Globally, this will be the first grand prix of the 2021 season to be held with so many audiences, while F1 has been evolving under a bubble since the beginnings of the Covid-19. Other points of the organization remain to be clarified. They concern access to yachts and balconies, but also to restaurants. For the moment, non-residents of Monaco are not allowed to have lunch or dinner in the Principality.
Bars should be open between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. for breakfasts and there will likely be assemblies for catering. Minister of State Pierre Dartout recalls that the economic benefits, estimated at 100 million euros, “will undoubtedly be less than for a normal year the Prince’s philosophy always proceeds in the same way“, with the objective of ensuring”the balance between the preservation of the economy and the health protection of the population“.
4.000 tickets sold
The Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix has sold “already 4,000 tickets”, said Christian Tornatore, commissioner general of the Automobile Club de Monaco. He attends the room of neighboring Italians for this event usually taken from the British. Last info, the price of a seat: from 80 euros in the grandstand, several thousand euros on the terrace!
