The 2019 US Open champion, who made her way to the Miami Open final last month, is currently recovering after testing positive for COVID-19 ahead of the Mutua Madrid Open. She is also registered with the Internazionali BNL d’Italia next week in Rome.
Andreescu’s return to clay is a highly anticipated event. The 21-year-old has only played one main draw match in her career, which took place in the 2019 Roland Garros first round. Still back from injury that year, Andreescu beat Marie Bouzkova, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 before retiring from the tournament.
Before her breakthrough in the 2019 season, Andreescu fell at Roland Garros twice.
