Launch of the new Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova in Strasbourg
The Council of Europe Action plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024 was officially launched in Strasbourg in the presence of Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova and Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The action plan aims to improve national legislation, institutions and practices in line with European standards on human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
As part of this plan, the Council of Europe and the Moldovan authorities have agreed to carry out activities to promote reforms in key areas such as the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and case law. of the European Court of Human Rights in Moldova.
On the basis of the work carried out under the previous action plans, steps will be taken to strengthen the independence and accountability of the judiciary, develop the capacity of law enforcement and other bodies to fight against corruption and money laundering and improve electoral legislation and practices.
A number of initiatives aim to reform the prison system and promote alternatives to detention, advance compliance with European standards of media and internet governance, improve data protection, align legislation and national practices on European anti-discrimination and gender equality standards as well as to strengthen the national child protection framework.
