ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) – The town of Hrvatska Kostajnica, located about 50 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake on December 29, 6.2, suffered significant damage from the disaster, and in that community of about 2,700 inhabitants, several hundred houses were destroyed or damaged.
So far, 26 houses have been declared unusable.
In a recent interview with Hina, Mayor Dalibor Bišćan said that the reports on the damage from the earthquake were still being completed and sent to the competent authorities.
A representative of the Sisak-Moslavina County Working Group for Resolving the Consequences of the Earthquake informed Hina that 400 chimneys and roofs in Hrvatska Kostajnica have been repaired since the earthquake in December.
This city on the left bank of the Una River, which is also the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been exposed to natural disasters in recent years.
Mayor Bišćan reminds that the earthquake was the third catastrophe in a short period.
He recalled the catastrophic floods and landslides that occurred in March 2018 when 12 family homes were destroyed.
Earthquakes in December triggered two landslides, threatening five houses.
Municipality of Dvor: So far 1,024 reports of earthquake damage
The mayor of the nearby municipality of Dvor, Nikola Arbutina, told Hina that the earthquake damaged this municipality, which consists of 60 villages spread over an area of over 505 square kilometers.
Arbutina said most of the court’s 5,500 residents are senior citizens, who live far from the center of the municipality.
To date, authorities have received 1,024 reports of earthquake damage.
