PES: Prague is up by 20 points in the regions in a week
In the metropolis on Monday, tests confirmed the infection with a new type of coronavirus in 777 people, which was 333 cases more than on the same day of the previous week. This follows from the data of the Ministry of Health.
Last Tuesday, Prague had 51 points. However, the score has risen since Wednesday and reached 68 points on Sunday, which it remained on Monday.
They contributed to the shift by another three points by increasing the number of newly infected people aged 65 and over, which is one of the main indicators for calculating PES. While on Sunday there were 472 seniors infected with coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants in Prague in the last two weeks, on Monday this indicator rose to 489. The limit of higher points is 480 infected.
Only the South Bohemian Region with 68 points currently shows a better result in the PES system than Prague. In these regions, the score corresponds to the fourth degree, all other regions are in the fifth, ie the highest degree of risk of spreading the epidemic, which starts at 76 points.
However, the situation may change, as shown by the case of the Moravian-Silesian Region, where the PES was 90 points on Monday, but fell to 85 on Tuesday.
For the whole of the Czech Republic, the PES is still at 76 points. This corresponds to the strictest fifth degree, but so far the fourth has been valid since Friday. The government should discuss moving to the “five” on Wednesday. Minister of Health Jan Blatný (for YES) has previously stated that he will propose further tightening of measures from Friday 25 December.
Vaccination, which is to start in the Czech Republic over the weekend, could alleviate the epidemic situation and especially fears of a collapse in healthcare. In the first months, the vaccine should be given mainly by health professionals and also by seniors.
