Prague will expand the paid parking zones, from the summer, for example, they will be added in Prague 10 – ČT24 – Czech Television
The biggest expansion will be the involvement of Prague 10, where, according to earlier information, the zones should start operating on August 24 in Vršovice and the Vinohrady part, on October 5 in Strašnice and on November 2 in Malešice. According to the local town hall, the reason is the fact that Prague 10 is surrounded by city districts where zones already apply, and parked cars are moving to its territory.
The lack of parking spaces for residents is also being addressed in Letňany, where drivers who change to the metro often park. According to the approved document, local parking is also hampered by the exhibition grounds and its visitors. For this reason, the local town hall has prepared a project to establish a zone in the central part of the housing estate.
Paid parking could also be introduced around the railway stations in Klánovice, where parking spaces are used by people changing trains. The neighboring Klánovice and Újezd nad Lesy districts are participating in negotiations with the municipality, while the introduction of the zone is required by the former. However, Újezd City Hall first requires the construction of a P + R car park, which is planned, but the project is now at a standstill, according to the document.
The councilors decided on Monday that the city districts would be able to decide on the introduction of the zone. According to the municipality, if paid parking is introduced, people can use two P + R car parks in nearby Běchovice.
Other parts of the city will expand the zones to new areas. In Prague 5, this will apply to the Podbělohorská housing estate and the rest of the Cibulka district, in Prague 6 to the rest of Hanspaulka, and in Prague 9 to other parts of Střížkov, Prosek, Krocínka and Libno. Districts that are not involved in the system as a whole, which are gradually adding new areas, such as Prague 5, have done so repeatedly in the past and are gradually planning to involve most of Jinonice, more than 20,000 Barrandov housing estates and residential areas in Hlubočepy.
According to the approved document, the Technical Communications Administration (TSK) will not purchase new parking meters for the newly established zones. In agreement with the city districts there will move those that are not used in other places of the current system. According to the document, a total of 135 machines will be needed for this wave of expansion. Their transfer is to cost about two million crowns, while the traffic signs of the new zones are about 22.5 million.
The first regulation of parking began in the 1980s in Prague 1. The so-called blue zones were first introduced in 1996 in part of Prague 1. They were further extended to the whole of Prague 1, 2, 3 and 7 and part of Prague 16. They also apply in selected parts of Prague. 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9.
