The Wax Museum – World of Entertainment company owns a museum in the center of Prague with mannequins of famous personalities. From February 4, the exhibition is closed due to reconstruction.
The first wax museum was opened in Prague on March 29, 1997. The Prague Wax Museum branches in Karlštejn and Český Krumlov later joined the Prague exhibition.
The foundations of the London Museum were wax figures of the French artist Marie Tussaud. The museum is a tourist attraction not only in London, and thanks to branches and many other cities around the world.
The first mannequin in the 18th century
Tussaud’s first figure was created in 1777, and Tussaud’s permanent exhibit opened in London in 1884. Tussaud learned everything from the housekeeper Philip Curtius, who was involved in making wax models for medical purposes.

Today, the production of one masterpiece employed 20 experienced sculptors for up to four months. During the modeling of the sculptures, over 500 real body dimensions are used, the actual hair of the dummy is attached one after the other, and several layers of paint and special toning are needed to achieve the most natural skin tone.
In 2014, a branch of the famous Parisian museum of wax figures Grévin, which has been operating in France since the end of the 19th century, was also opened in Prague. After four years, this Prague museum changed owners and a new cultural and social attraction was created, presenting not only celebrity mannequins but also the history of chocolate.
