Winter Storm Warning: Parts of the Ring Road are already closed. More closures looming

Yellow weather warnings are in effect for the South and the North, today, Tuesday, February 13. The Icelandic Meteorological Office warns of heavy snowfall and torrential rains, gales or gusty winds and difficult driving conditions. Conditions on heath roads are particularly difficult. The Road Administration has closed the ring road over Öxnadalsheiði and Vatnsskarð and Víkurskarð in Norðurland. Currently, there is no way to get between the three largest fjords in the North.
Conditions on the ring road west of Víkur in South Iceland have also been difficult this morning, with snow cover and low visibility. The road was considered impassable earlier this morning but has been opened to traffic. Drivers should use caution during snowfall.

IRCA has warned that the Ring Road from Reykjavík to the South has to be closed, as conditions are rapidly deteriorating in Hellisheði, between the capital area and the South. An alternate route through Threngslin may also be closed. The conditions on other routes from Reykjavík to the South are similarly difficult, as visibility is very low due to heavy snowfall and torrential rain.
ICE-SAR has issued a travel warning today:
Difficult travel conditions today! Today, (13.2.), a storm is passing over Iceland, coming from the east and the west. Difficult travel conditions are expected. Check the weather and road conditions before you go and adjust plans as needed.
