Several roads, parts of the ring road, are likely to be closed tonight

Due to the storm that is heading for Iceland, the Road Administration has announced that it will probably close several roads in the Southwest and the West this evening. People should adjust their travel plans accordingly and avoid all travel after tonight.

IRCA expects that the ring road over Hellisheidi, which separates the capital area and the South, as well as the alternate route through Threngslin, will be closed to all traffic at 20:00. It is also expected that Mosfellsheiði and Lyngdalsheiði, which separate Þingvalla National Park from Westland and Southland, will be closed to traffic around 8:00 p.m.
The roads are expected to be closed until the early hours of the morning.
A rapidly increasing wind is expected in the evening around 20-21. Snow storm on mountain roads storm and very bad visibility. Mainly in W- and SW-land, but tomorrow generally in Iceland. Rain in the lowlands.
Travelers are asked to respect road closures. Both the Icelandic Meteorological Office and ICE-SAR have asked people to cancel all travel plans this evening.
