Prague and DPP will start looking for a private partner for the construction of metro D
Prague – Prague, together with a transport company (DPP), will start looking for a partner in the private sector, with whom it will establish a company involved in the construction of metro D. The joint venture is to help develop the station’s surroundings and purchase problematic land. In the first phase, the Pankrác – Olbrachtov section is to be established. This follows from the materials approved by Prague councilors today. Metro D is intended to ease line C and improve the serviceability of housing estates in the south of the city.
“The joint venture will be established in the form of a joint stock company, whose shareholders will be DPP and a selected strategic partner,” it is written in the document. The establishment of the company was announced by DPP in February this year. Ownership in the company will be distributed so that DPP will own 49 percent of the shares, the remaining 51 percent will go to the investor.
The company aims to facilitate the purchase of missing land. It will not be bound by regulations that prohibit cities and DPPs from buying land at a higher than estimated price. The company will address all planned stations – they will not be distributed among different developers. DPP CEO Martin Gillar told ČTK at the beginning of June that the station would belong only to DPP in order to prevent possible disputes threatening the metro in the future.
According to the document, another goal of the joint venture will be, for example, the urban development of the metro station area, development development and evaluation of the potential of the locality, including possible own development activities. With the establishment of the company, Prague would also lose the need to invest in surface construction. “The company will have the task of taking care of the surface above the meter. Prague remains the only investor in the construction of the metro through DPP. It is already expected that about four billion Prague would invest in the surface, it would fall away.” said Deputy Mayor Petr Dolínek (CSSD).
Today, councilors also approved the so-called construction phasing. The metro will not be built as a whole, but in parts. The Pankrác-Olbrachtov section will be the first to be created. The reason is that in this section it is easiest to obtain the necessary land. The city has problems with purchases, especially in Krč. Only this year did we manage to negotiate the wording of the agreement with the owners, according to which they will allow Prague to build a metro, and the city will create development projects for them.
The first section is to be followed by another section leading to the Nové Dvory station. According to an earlier statement by the city management, this section could be completed in 2023.
In addition to the subway from Pankrác to Písnice, metro D is also to run from Pankrác to náměstí Míru. The construction of this part of the route has not yet been decided. Driverless trains will run on the new line. Metro D will estimate 50 billion crowns.
