Rimini adheres to the National Day of Civilian Victims of Wars
Today, February 1, we celebrate the National Day of Civilian Victims of War and Conflict in the World to preserve the memory of the victims and promote the culture of peace and repudiation of war. An anniversary to which the Municipality of Rimini has also joined by accepting the invitation of the National Association of Italian Municipalities (ANCI) and the National Association of Civil War Victims (ANVCG), illuminating the walls of Castel Sismondo in blue (starting from 6 pm) and displaying a banner with the slogan ‘Stop bombing civilians’ in front of the Urp headquarters in Piazza Cavour. “This important Day has the dual objective of remembering the sacrifice of the population during the World Wars and of raising community awareness of the impact of subsequent and current conflicts on civilians around the world, in order to promote the culture of peace – comments Francesca Mattei, Councilor for Peace Policies and International Cooperation , which for the population was one of the bloodiest periods of the Second World War with victims in many Italian municipalities. At the same time, the initiative takes place while a dramatic conflict is underway on the European continent, the one between Russia and Ukraine”. “I thank ANVCG Rimini for the commitment it makes every year to spread awareness of the tragedies generated by war and to promote civic education for peace, human rights and solidarity among peoples”, concludes the Councilor. For further information on the theme of the Day and more generally on civilian war victims, please visit the website www.anvcg.it and the Association’s social channels.
