The conductor Leopold Hager was born in 1935 in Salzburg, the hometown of Mozart. So it fits like a glove that the former chief conductor of the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper, among others, has received worldwide recognition for his interpretation of the works of the masters of Viennese classicism – Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert achieved.
This is not the first time that Hager has made a guest appearance with the Balearic Symphony Orchestra. On Thursday and Friday, February 2nd and 3rd, he will conduct the symphonic orchestra in two concerts in the Palma and Manacor auditoriums. Both times a pure Mozart program is on the agenda: the Symphony No. 40 in G minor and the Great Mass in C minor. In addition to the symphonists of the University Choir of the Balearic Islands and the sopranos Serafina Starke and Flore van Meerssche, the tenor Simon Yang and the bass Gabriel Rollinson will be performing at the Great Mass.
The soloists have another connection to the birthplace of Mozart and Hager: the four young singers have in common that they were scholarship holders of the “Young Singers Project” of the Salzburg Festival. The concert on February 2nd at the Palma Auditorium starts at 8pm. Tickets for 30 and 35 euros are included auditoriumpalma.koobin.com and available at the theater box office. In the Auditori de Manacor, the music event begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for 18 euros entrades.teatredemanacor.cat and also at the box office.
