Anytime Fitness aims for 200 gyms in 2030 and lands in Andorra
Anytime Fitness accelerates. The American gym chain plans to reach 200 operational gyms in 2030, which will mean 160 openings in the next seven years, as Tim Deveraux, general director of the subsidiary in Spain, has detailed to Palco23. By 2023, the chain plans to open ten centers in Spain after having reached 40 operational centers this month.
Specifically, in the first quarter of the year it opens two centers in Mallorca and in May it opens a center in Parc de l’Aigua (Lleida). He is also looking for premises in Barcelona and Malaga.
The The company plans to land in Andorra, where it plans to operate a maximum of two gyms in the Pyrenean country. Likewise, the chain plans to open another own center as part of the long-term expansion plan, in Andalusia or Madrid.

Anytime Fitness, which has more than 250 employees among all its gyms, estimates that it will exceed 40,000 members in Spain in 2023. The chain closed the 2022 financial year, with a 15% increase in its subscribers, with an average of 826 members per center .
The company, which has not communicated the volume of business generated in 2022 or the forecasts for 2023, has exceeded the pre-pandemic levels by club, according to Deveraux.
As shown by the Anytime Fitness Spain subsidiary in its annual accounts deposited in the Mercantile Registry, the net increase in turnover was 10.7%. If this figure is transferred to the company as a whole, the company would have achieved a business of 23 million euros in the Spanish market in 2021, while, for 2022, it could have exceeded pre-Covid levels. In 2019, with 59 centers, it had a turnover of 26 million euros.
In order to continue growing, the company will strengthen its sales team and will bet on more corporate clubs in Madrid, Valencia or Andalusia, with the aim of “growing in areas where there is no awareness of the brand and providing support to franchisees in the area”. “It is a model that has worked very well in the Japanese market”, details the manager.
The chain has postponed the arrival of Self Esteem Brands in Spain
Regarding the brands of Self Esteem Brands, owner of the company, such as Waxing the City, Basecamp Fitness or The Bar Method, Deveraux does not contemplate that they land in the country in the short and medium term“until the model has been consolidated”.
Anytime Fitness was born in Minnesota, where its headquarters are located, and from where its founders Dave Mortensen and Chuck Runyon lead this project that is already present on five continents. The company makes around 400 openings a year, adding almost 5,000 operating units in nineteen years.
