The prefect delivers five medals of honor to the flag headquarters of Palazzo Massani
On the occasion of the celebration of the “Day of Remembrance” to remember the extermination of the Jews shown to the world with the opening of the gates of Auschwitz, the Prefect introduced the day by recalling how the Memory of the many innocent victims must be a heritage to be guarded, preserved and hand down above all to the younger generations and that today’s celebration must be an invitation to commitment and continuous vigilance. Furthermore, the value of the Medals of Honor granted by the President of the Republic to Italian citizens, military and civilians deported and interned in Nazi concentration camps and destined for forced labor for the war economy and to the relatives of the deceased was underlined (Law 27 December 2006, n.296). Dr. Forlenza, supported from time to time by the Deputy Mayor of Rimini and by the Mayors of Cattolica, Poggio Torriana, San Leo and Santarcangelo di Romagna, has delivered five Medals of Honor awarded to the memory of Elio Biagini to as many family members residing in this province (Rimini), Vincenzo Brizi (Cattolica), Antonio Di Monaco (Poggio Torriana), Enea Vignali (San Leo) and Aldo Zavatta (Santarcangelo di Romagna). Particularly intense was the involvement of the school world, expressed through the moving testimony read by two young people from the Student Council. Starting from the Canto degli Italiani performed by the soprano Paola Tiraferri, the ceremony unfolded between particularly incisive period films and historical black and white photographs that served as the background for all the salient moments.
The ceremony held today in the Sala delle Bandiere of the Prefecture was a suggestive and significant ceremony. The Prefect introduced the day with a detailed speech underlining, among other things, that “no concept must be taken for granted and nothing taken for granted: we are all the ones who must repeat it to ourselves every time, as in this Day established in 2000 with the Law of the State, we meet not out of obligation, but because our hearts and our minds can never let the abjection of man against man, which has generated deportation, imprisonment, death, extermination, pass as a simple historical event”. Dr. Padovano was followed by the intervention of the President of the Jewish Communities of Romagna Fortunato Arbib. Also present at the ceremony were the provincial heads of the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Guardia di Finanza, the Port Authority and the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade, the Director of the Provincial School Office and the Director of the “Lettimi” Institute. The Conservatory also takes center stage through the presence and performance of pieces by the violinist Michela Ramelli and the keyboardist Fabrizio di Muro. The Prefect also underlined the value of the Medals of Honor granted by the President of the Republic to Italian citizens, military and civilians deported and interned in Nazi concentration camps and destined for forced labor for the war economy and to the relatives of the deceased (Law 27 December 2006, n.296). Both Medals of Honor awarded for this area went to citizens residing in Santarcangelo di Romagna, with Mayor Alice Parma assisting the Prefect in the delivery together with the Vice President of the Province Daniela De Leonardis representing President Jamil Sadegholvaad. The awards, withdrawn by their respective children, were attributed to the memory of the military Salvatore Capozzoli and Aldo Rinaldi, both of whom at the time survived the atrocious oppression of internment.
