On the evening of January 26th, 2023, Cologne customs, together with the city of Cologne’s regulatory office, inspected five restaurants and shisha bars in Cologne city center and Ehrenfeld.
“We had a hit in every shisha bar and quickly seized 100 tobacco tins. There is a suspicion that the tobacco is untaxed and was manufactured illegally – and has received a fine,” said Jens Ahland, spokesman for the main customs office in Cologne.
In addition, 20 employees and employees found in the controlled objects were checked by the task forces of the financial control for undeclared work. In two cases there are employees on the first day to work there and there are first indications that they have not yet been registered by their employer for social security.
“A 40-year-old Indian and two 27-year-old Bangladeshis were found in a restaurant without the required work and residence permits. Our investigations are now primarily directed against the men’s employer. Investigations were initiated on site. About the others The competent foreigners authority now decides on measures relating to residence law,” Ahland continued.
