Opposition to the Grand Sud-Ouest project (GPSO), but validated since 2016, is still strong. While funding from Europe is long overdue, a new event takes place this Saturday
the Major South-West Project (GPSO) provide 327 kilometers of new road from Bordeaux to Toulouse and Dax, with a common section of 55 kilometers, for a budget of 14 billion euros (financed 40% by the State, 40% by local authorities and 20% by the European Union). The objective is to connect Bordeaux and Toulouse in just 1h05 compared to 2h04 today, ie one hour less. The Bordeaux-Dax journey took him 49 minutes against 1:07, at best, today. That’s 18 minutes saved. The first works are expected in early 2024, for the commissioning of Bordeaux-Toulouse in 2032. But opposition is still strong.
After years of study and debate, the GPSO was declared of public utility in 2016 and purged of all appeals. But President Macron had delayed the operation in 2017, before relaunching in 2020. Since then, funding from Europe has been pending. The opposition takes the opportunity to try to enter this new LGV, in the name of the environment and believes that we can develop the current tracks.
