Salon: the murderer of the Pont d’Avignon sentenced to 20 years in prison
It is a news item that had hit the headlines and marked the spirits in January 2020 in Salon-de-Provence. In the early morning, a body was found in rue Georges Saint-Martin, near the PMU Le Pont d’Avignon bar. A bleeding body and with a detail that was barbaric to say the least: he had his ear cut off. Very quickly, suspicions were directed towards a dispute related to the clientele of the bar, against a backdrop of alcoholism and extreme violence. And it was the manager of the bar himself, Yassine E. who presented himself and took prisoner at the police station a few hours later.
Monday, since the accused appeared before the Assize Court of Bouches-du-Rhône, in Aix-en-Provence, for the murder of Mustapha A. According to our colleagues from La Provence, he did not dispute the facts. “I am very, very aware of the seriousness of the situation and the pain I have suffered”. According to him, he had known the victim for 2 years and he did not remember the exact sequence of events, being very alcoholic that evening. Still according to the daily La Provence, it was the CCTV images that made it possible to find out more and to see the bloody protest. The victim would have received nearly a hundred blows.
The trial ended on Wednesday January 25 with the verdict, the result of three hours of deliberation: 20 years in prison and 5 years of socio-judicial follow-up for Yassine E.
