almost a century of quality education
The French Lyceum of Barcelona (LFB) dates from 1924. Almost a century ago! and is a true reference in the educational panorama of Barcelona. It is a center that reports directly to the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and is managed by the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE). In total, there are more than 500 French high schools in the world serving nearly 400,000 students. The programs are the same as in France.
In Barcelona, the LFB welcomes almost 3,000 students from 3 to 18 years old and of all nationalities. Most of the teachers come from the French national education system, except in specific subjects such as Spanish or Catalan.
Two modern campuses
The LFB has two campuses: La Maternelle, located in La Bonanova, in an exceptional building, ecological, low energy consumption, modern, welcoming and specially designed for children; and the Élémentaire, Collège and Lycée building, located in Pedralbes, on a large landscaped campus.
A red in the world
Many LFB students are the children of former students who are satisfied with the teaching received and the international environment. “We also welcome many students whose parents are professionally mobile and, if they change countries, their children can follow an education without interruptions, from the Maternelle to the Baccalauréat (High School). The AEFE is the largest international school network in the world”, explains Jean Bastianelli, director of the center.
Access to prestigious studios
66% of LFB students continue their studies at local universities, many of them in Barcelona. They manage to enter the most outstanding formations in France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, the United States or the Netherlands, among others
openness and commitment
The educational project of the French Lyceum of Barcelona is based on three axes. The first of these is the definition of the center as an international, multilingual and multicultural school. “Our students, of numerous nationalities, communicate in multiple languages in a multicultural environment and with an open vision of the world. This openness is promoted through programs (exchanges with other French high schools around the world, such as Stockholm, Berlin, Athens, Chicago, Seoul, Johannesburg…) and school trips (Paris, Rome, Geneva…). The objective is to train quadrilingual students. The teaching is given in French, Spanish and Catalan and English is the guiding thread from the early childhood stage to the last year of secondary school, where students validate the Cambridge certificates at an expert level (Proficiency)”, says Bastianelli.
The second great axis is a digital and innovative pedagogy. The courses are organized so that the student acquires a solid and structured knowledge base, which will allow him to apply personal analysis and help him to develop as an individual with intellectual autonomy. Thus, an active and open pedagogy is developed, based on the potential of innovation and digital technology.
The third pillar is the promotion of citizenship and democratic values. “We want to train future responsible and supportive citizens. For this reason, the humanist education that our students receive is faithful to the values of freedom, equality and fraternity of the French Republic. A humanistic education that includes tolerance, freedom of thought, critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and gender equality. Thus, ecology is a priority in the school’s project, which is interested in today’s world and its challenges”, say those in charge of the center.
It is also decidedly through physical and sports education (rugby, fencing, climbing, sailing, badminton…) and the arts (theater, singing, orchestra…) that students are trained to commit to the world around them. “We hope that the students will keep the best memories of their 15 years of schooling at the French school and that they will then integrate naturally into our large community of alumni”, concludes Jean Bastianelli.
In 2023, the LFB will introduce the Baccalauréat Français International
In September 2023, the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI) opens at the French Lyceum in Barcelona. It is an excellent trilingual (French-English-Spanish) or quadrilingual (plus Catalan) study plan.
The minimum objective in each language is C1 of the European reference framework. The excellence of the section is recognized in France, Spain and internationally, and facilitates access to the best centers of higher education, great schools and universities.
