The Aix-Marseille metropolis launches an emergency button on the RTM mobile application, a first in France
You had to think about it! The gtr
presented this Wednesday a tool, unprecedented in France, which came into operation on January 16, and which consisted of reassuring travelers on the bus, metro and tram network, in Marseille and in the metropolis
. baptized “RTM Alert”this is an emergency button, added to the mobile application of the metropolitan transport authority, in order to alert in the event of a problem: theft, assault, harassment, sexism, accident or illness. Whether you are a witness or a victim, it is possible, with a simple click, to be put in direct contact with an RTM agent, 24/7.
How it works ?
It’s really very simple! First you have to download the RTM application for free on your phone or, if it is already the case, launch an update. On the home screen, you seem to appear, at the top right, a red button with the word “SOS” written in white. Just click on it. It is recommended to activate the localization and to authorize the access to the microphone of the mobile, to record the sound environment in the event of an emergency call. There, two possibilities are offered to you: either call an RTM agent directly or issue an alert by sms, if for example you cannot speak because of an immediate threat. You are then in contact with an agent specially trained to listen to you, reassure you, advise you, guide you. Depending on the urgency, he may request the intervention of the police or emergency services.

According to the Aix-Marseille Provence metropolis, the RTM application has already been downloaded by 500,000 users and since January 16, 200,000 updates have been made to access the alert button.
The Marseille transport network, one of the safest in France
Nearly one in two French people do not feel safe on public transport
in common according to a recent survey. An opinion study which confirms a stable trend, noted in 2018 by the National Observatory of Delinquency. And if the network of Paris and Île-de-France is often criticized for its lack of security, we learn, not without astonishment, that the Marseille network is one of the safest in the country! And that’s no small thing, in a city whose assassins linked to the drug traffic
regularly make the headlines and maintain, even in caricature, its bad reputation as a city of crime.
The figures put forward by the Aix-Marseille Provence metropolis seem to go in this direction: 900,000 daily passengers, i.e. more than 300 million trips per year on the bus, tram and metro network. But only, 300 incidents of insecurity declared each year, ie less than one day on average. And yet despite the observation, insecurity, real or supposed, is well felt in Marseille transport as France Bleu Provence has been able to verify.
