Sweden to deliver CV90 combat vehicles, Archer system to Ukraine
Providing support to Ukraine in its struggle for existence and common European values is one of the priorities for the Swedish EU presidency. Therefore, Sweden plans to send 50 CV90 combat vehicles and Archer self-propelled artillery systems to Ukraine.
The relevant statement was made by Sweden’s Minister of Defense Pål Jonson at a meeting with the European Parliament’s subcommittee on security and defence, reports a Ukrinform correspondent.
Jonson also urged the EU to increase defense production volumes.
According to Jonson, the Swedish presidency comes at a really critical time for the entire European Union. Russia’s criminal and unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine is the biggest challenge to European security since the end of World War II.
Jonson noted that Ukraine is fighting not only for its own freedom but also for the freedom of Europe. Russia is challenging the very existence of Ukraine, as well as European values and the common European future. Therefore, according to Jonson, economic, humanitarian, political and military support to Ukraine is about investing in Europe’s own security.
Among the measures that the Swedish EU Presidency will focus on is the continuation of the effective operation of the EU Military Assistance Mission for Ukraine (EUMAM), which had been launched in record time and is expected to train 15,000 Ukrainian servicemen as soon as possible. like this year. An important issue is also the completion of the process of distributing the seventh tranche of aid to Ukraine within the framework of the European Peace Facility.
