Marseille: hundreds of HLM tenants are mobilizing against the increase in their heating bill
Hundreds of tenants gathered Tuesday, January 24 in front of the offices of the social landlord Habitat Marseille Provence to demand explanations while their heating bill has been multiplied by two or three, depending on the household.
A massive blow. They were several hundred tenants, this Tuesday, January 24, 2023, in front of the offices of their social landlord Habitat Marseille Provence to demand explanations.
In question, the increase in their heating bill which has recently been multiplied by three for some homes. An increase that is difficult or even impossible to assume for these tenants hit hard by inflation.
“From 62 euros we went to 190 euros”, protests a tenant. “From the 10th of the month we are exposed, can you imagine? What’s going to happen ? We will find ourselves on the street, ”outbids another tenant from Marseille.
Soaring energy prices
According to the social landlord, this increase in expenses is explained by soaring energy prices and would only be a simple repercussion on the charges of the tenants of these HLMs.
An explanation that does not convince users, who feel cheated by the social landlord. “We have nothing to do with the war and everything that is happening, we pay our rents, our charges and our taxes”, explains a resident of the HLM park.
An increase in charges that is all the more difficult to hear for these inhabitants because of the temperature recorded in their apartments. Not more than 18 ° C, in particular, at noon in the accommodation of a retired couple. “In the morning it does not do more than 15 or 16”, he still laments.
As a result, this couple refuses to pay their new bill (123 euros increase per month) and decides to take this risk hoping that the social landlord lowers its prices.
