War-torn Ukraine has more punctual railways than Norway – Document
For several days in January, the Ukrainian railway beat the Norwegian railway in punctuality.
Only 5 out of 23 days so far in January has passenger train traffic in Norway had a punctuality of 90 per cent or more, writes Aftenposten.
The figures are particularly weak for rush hour traffic in Oslo. So far this year, more than every fourth train has been more than 4 minutes late.
– Unfortunately, we have had a year with more errors and incidents than last year, and this also started the punctuality, says Director of Operations and Technology at Bane Nor, Sverre Kjenne.
To put it in comparison, over 300 railway workers have so far been killed in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and the Russians have attacked both power grids and railway infrastructure. Nevertheless, the trains are on schedule, according to Ukrainian Railways punctuality statistics for certain days in January.
One of the world’s richest countries, which is struggling with high electricity prices and people who have to stand in food queues at voluntary organisations, is also unable to be as punctual as a country at war.
On 8 January, 95 percent of all departures in Ukraine were on schedule. In Norway, the same figure was 83.6 per cent. On 12 January, 95 per cent of all departures were on schedule. On the same day, punctuality on the railway in Norway was 84.4 per cent, according to Aftenposten.
