Ice hockey: Salzburg is getting closer to Bozen
Ljubljana have announced the resignation of head coach Mitja Sivic after just one win in their last 14 games ahead of their clash with Salzburg. The “bulls” were not irritated by this. Ty Loney (8th) and Peter Schneider (15th/PP) scored in the first quarter of an hour, but the Slovenians didn’t pose any real threat after that either.
At the beginning of the final section, the first goal by Luka Kalan (42nd) was probably a surprise. Paul Stapelfeldt (45th) restored the two-goal lead less than three minutes later. The guests shouldn’t let that be taken away, in the final section Mario Huber (53.) and Tyler James Lewington (60./PP) scored to make it 5-1.
Innsbruck has to tremble to the end
Innsbruck, who fell back from the top of the table to third place, wanted to end their negative series. The fifth-placed Linzer are not necessarily the favorite opponents, but the party went to the taste of the hosts. Corey Mackin (19th) on the power play and Daniel Leavens (36th) shot out a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes. Stefan Gaffal (53′) scored the goal in the majority but Innsbruck had to tremble until the final minute before Lukas Bär (60′) scored into the empty goal.
In Vienna, the home side could only look back on one win from the last four appearances, while the Villachers could look back on five successes en suite. That was initially not reflected on the ice. The Capitals made it ahead, Alex Wall (4th) and Jeremy Gregoire (19th) from the second line made it 2-0 after the first period. The VSV knew how to counter and didn’t need long to do so. Felix Maxa (27th) and Robert Sabolic (37th) scored twice within 37 seconds.
Gate to 5:4 as a door opener for capital letters
In a turbulent phase, the Viennese quickly responded through Darik Angeli (29th), but they couldn’t bring the lead into the dressing room because Andrew Desjardins made it 3:3 on the power play 18 seconds before the siren. The key continues: Matt Bradley’s (41st) goal for the Capitals was countered by Maximilian Rebernig (43rd). The Viennese submits a fourth time. The 5:4 by Lukas Kainz (53rd) should be the door opener, Gregoire (59th) made the decision before the final minute.
