After the cyberattack, return to almost normal at the Alexis de Tocqueville library in Caen
His bag full of books, Thierry comes to return the documents borrowed in recent months and which it was impossible to return until now, due to the cyberattack. One after the other, the books are placed on the conveyor belt and gobbled up by the machine: “It was for the family too. There are four of us! Today, I am the official clerk to return the documents. About thirty anyway. We knew we could take some, but not return them. At the end of For a while, we calmed down. Finally, we are happy to be able to return them, that other access is also possible to the books we have borrowed.
78,000 documents issued at the same time compared to 20,000 normally
“We had a real expectation from our users to finally be able to bring back the documents that they had sometimes authorized during this entire period of cyberattack, explains Sylvain Pinon, reception manager at the Alexis de Tocqueville library. From this weekend, we had a lot of returns: 8500 for the day of Saturday and 4500 Sunday. Which is huge and unprecedented since the opening of the library.” Usually 2500 to 3000 documents are reported on a Saturday.
In total, more than 78,000 documents were released at the same time, almost four times more than the average. But if it is possible to return the books again, the website is not working yet and with it, in particular the resources of the digital box (which is used to read magazines, VOD via Arte…). It is still impossible to have internet and wifi access within the confines of the Alexis de Tocqueville library. As a precaution, no date for a return to normal has been advanced.
“What I remember is the adaptability of librarians, emphasizes Sylvain Pinon. They showed creativity to continue to deliver a service, even degraded and it is rich in lessons for the future.” Hoping that the next cyberattack does not take place right away!
