Toulouse: in the corridors of Rangueil hospital, a very active card thief
Accustomed to the common areas of the Rangueil hospital, a marginal was arrested with several bank cards stolen from the sick, or caregivers.
For the administrative and medical teams at the Rangueil hospital, the man was almost part of the decor. For several weeks, this 35-year-old individual often hung out in the common areas of the Toulouse hospital center, sometimes outside. A presence in particular to avoid cold or bad weather but last week, a check revealed another motivation, less honest.
This man was found in possession of several bank cards. The checks quickly showed that these different cards did not belong to him. The investigations required by the property unit of the departmental security confirmed the suspicions and seven victims, who suffered theft and fraud, were infected.
He didn’t “find” them.
These means of payment had been stolen since the beginning of January from patients or hospital staff. Seven maps were found, some of which were stolen before winter. The work of the investigators made it possible to recover video recordings where the suspect uses these cards to settle contactless payments. Above all, this exploitation of the videos made it possible to remove the fact that, contrary to his assertions, the suspect had indeed stolen the cards and that he had not “found” them as he was trying to make the police believe.
Left free at the end of his police custody, he explains himself in a few months before the criminal court of Toulouse. The damage has not been determined with precision.
