This is the protocol applied by nightclubs in Barcelona in cases of sexual assault
In case of Daniel Alvesin pretrial detention since last Friday after being accused of an alleged rape of a 23-year-old girl, has focused on the nightlife. The events took place at dawn on December 31 in the sutton nightclub of Barcelona, where it was applied from the beginning the protocol established for cases of assaults sexual (they treated the victim immediately, isolated her and kept all the evidence until the police arrived).
Specifically, the workers of said premises followed the Protocol ‘we are not silent‘against assaults and sexual harassment in private nightlife spaces. A process driven by the Barcelona’s town hall in 2018, its basic principles are priority attention to the person attacked, respect for their decisions, it was not raised in criminal proceedings, adopting an attitude of rejection of the aggressor and rigorous information.
The ‘We won’t keep quiet’ protocol against assaults and sexual harassment in private nightlife spaces
The document includes prevention and action guidelines specific for cases of sexual assault, rape or sexual abuse. In a case like the one that occurred at the Sutton nightclub, the following steps must be followed when caring for the assaulted person:
- care for the victim as soon as possibletalk to her and make sure she’s not in any immediate danger.
- Notify the person responsible for care in the room and accompany the person attacked to the space enabled for these cases.
- If the person responsible verifies that the assaulted person is in a position to be informedyou have to :pask the person if they have any friends in the room to join them; tell her that she can request assistance from the emergency medical services, from the Mossos d’Esquadra (with the possibility of making a complaint) and that she can be transferred to the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona; explain that she can receive emotional and medical support; give her an informative triptych about her options; convey to her that the priority is respect for her times and needs; and make sure that she does not leave alone if she does not wish to be assisted.
- If the person responsible verifies that the assaulted person it is not in condition to be informed, you must call 112 to request emergency medical services.
