More and more children need psychological help

In the psychosocial outpatient clinic “Am Ball” in the city of Salzburg, more children and young people were treated in 2022 than ever before. The center of the state and the ÖGK offer a low-threshold service for those affected.
Under-18s who are depressed, sad, have behavioral problems or are aggressive can come to the outpatient clinic. For those insured in Salzburg, this works without registration, without being referred and without payment, says clinical psychologist Nadia Jöchler. The offer should be as low-threshold as possible.
“You can come to us free of charge, there is an outpatient clinic two half days a week without an appointment. We only need the e-card and then we will see where we can help,” explains the psychologist.
Demand increased by a third
Those affected are either referred to a suitable place or treated directly in the outpatient clinic. The demand has increased. Last year, 466 patients were treated, a third more than in 2018. Discussion groups for parents are also offered. The offer and the supply are varied.
“Our house is managed by a medical specialist, and experts from various professions work here, such as psychology, psychotherapy and social work. In addition, of course, several specialists,” adds Jöchler. The outpatient clinic has a wide range of staff, experts from the medical field, psychotherapy, psychology and social work work there.
