Poland to create a “smaller coalition” of countries that are ready to donate part of their modern equipment and modern tanks to Ukraine, if Germany still does not agree to send 14 Leopard 2, which was announced by the Kyiv President of the RP Andrzej Duda.
The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated this in an interview PAP.
Moravetsky emphasized that Ukraine’s partner countries will not passively observe the war and will not allow “Russia to capture Kyiv and then set Europe on fire.”
“We are creating a ‘smaller coalition’ of countries ready to donate some of their modern equipment and modern tanks to a fighting Ukraine. We will not passively watch Ukraine bleed. The Ukrainian people are fighting for freedom. Sending Leopards to Ukraine is a matter of Polish and European raison d’état (national interest). We will not allow Russia to capture Kyiv and then set Europe on fire,” Moravetskyi said.
The head of the Polish government noted that the decision to support the Ukrainian army is justified both politically and morally.
“I hope that the Germans will understand this sooner rather than later. However, any country that already understands this will definitely follow in Poland’s footsteps,” he concluded.
What is known about providing Ukraine Leopard
President of Poland Andrzej Duda announced during his visit to Lviv before the studies of Ukraine, 14 Leopard 2 tanks. But Before any country transfers Leopard tanks, Germany’s consent must be given.
After that, discussions began. Since Germany has an ambiguous position regarding the provision of these tanks to Ukraine. It was expected that Berlin to decide on the achievements of Ukraine to the meeting of high-ranking defense officials of allied countries at the American airbase in Ramstein on January 20.
However, the decision on the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine was not made at the meeting in Ramstein on February 20.
Head of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag expressed disappointment the fact that during the meeting in the Ramstein format they did not make a decision on the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
The States are also disappointed. In a conversation with Sky News, a high-ranking American official said that at the moment Washington does not know how to solve the issue with the supply of Leopard-2 tanks.
Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki criticized Germany for the release and transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. He emphasized that the war is here and now and Ukraine urgently needs the equipment.
Meanwhile individual people went to a rally under the office building of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin on January 20. They opposed the release of the German government from supplying Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Many participants of the rally were wrapped in Ukrainian national flags and shouted calls to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
At the same time, already on January 22, the Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius announced that is planning a trip to Ukraine. Answering a question about the supply of German Leopard tanks to Ukraine, Pistorius noted that Germany conducts a very close dialogue on this issue with international partners, ahead of the US.
