Arena Verona, piece of poinsettia falls: damaged steps
Investigations are underway to understand the dynamics of the accident that occurred this morning inside the Arena amphitheater during the dismantling of the ‘Stella’ by Fondazione Verona per l’Arena, responsible for the construction site and for installation and dismantling , which commissioned a specialized firm for the purpose. To allow for all the necessary checks it has been arranged the seizure of the affected area and the amphitheater which will remain closed to the public until 30 January. All the competent authorities, law enforcement agencies, Superintendence of Archeology BB.AA. and P. and the mayor Damiano Tommasi, the deputy mayor and councilor for monumental construction Barbara Bissoli went to the place.
As for the dynamics, which is the subject of all the necessary checks, at the moment it appears that the support structure positioned on the top steps has slipped. This fall caused partial damage to them. The dismantling operations have been scheduled for Monday, the day the monument is closed to the public to allow access only to insiders. No injuries were reported.
“It is a pity to note such damage to the extraordinary Roman monument that represents Verona all over the world – says the deputy mayor Barbara Bissoli -. Today’s event demonstrates, if needed, that the use of the Arena must be accompanied by great expertise and respect, because any damage represents a wound that cannot be healed”.
