There is a restaurant in Lisbon where you can taste the delicacies of The World Cook winner
justin jennings delighted the jury of The World Cook competition with his culinary creations and the truth is that you can taste them at the restaurant that the chef has in Lisbon – Downunder by Justin Jennings, located in São Bento.
It is there that you can enjoy the famous kangaroo and egg tartare, a dish that made the critic Jay Rayner “extremely happy”, and that drew wide praise in the first episode of The World Cook, the Amazon Prime program where the Australian chef stood out among sixteen competitors. “My journey as a cook begins as a story that is familiar to many chefs. Seeing my mother, who is also a cook, preparing a feast in the kitchen and being interested in how everything worked”account Justin.
Still, Justin never aspired to make a career in the culinary world. In fact, the chef, who was born in Port Macquarie, a small fishing town on the east coast of Australia, dreamed of becoming a carpenter, but as it was a profession that did not give him a comfortable salary at the end of the month, he took a second job as a kitchen. And fate happened.
In his journey as a chef, he met Sofia, a young Portuguese woman who was doing an internship in hospitality and love happened. Seven years ago, and already with two children, the couple decided to move to Lisbon where, since 2017, they have been running Downunder by Justin Jennings, a restaurant that aims to offer a unique experience with local and Australian ingredients.
