The sirens will be tested on Wednesday, February 1, 2023
Principality of Liechtenstein
Vaduz (ots)
In the event of an emergency, the population must be alerted quickly. The sirens are an important tool for this. To ensure that they work properly, the annual siren test takes place on February 1st throughout Liechtenstein and Switzerland. As in previous years, the Alertswiss channels will also be tested at the same time. In addition, on February 1, Liechtenstein will introduce so-called “emergency meeting points” throughout the country.
The siren test started at 1:30 p.m. on February 1 and lasted until 2 p.m. at the latest. The “general alarm” triggered consists of a regularly rising and falling siren tone of one minute. After five minutes he repeats himself. In addition, at 1:45 p.m. the manual triggering of the sirens will be tested on site. The population does not have to take any action as part of these tests.
At the same time as the siren test, the alerting via the Alertswiss app and website is also being tested. Anyone who has installed the Alertswiss app will receive an information message on their mobile phone.
From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Switzerland, the water alarm sign is tested in the immediate zones below dams. It consists of twelve low continuous tones of 20 seconds each in at least 10 seconds each. Depending on the weather, this downstream siren test can also be heard in Liechtenstein (Balzers area). There is generally no water alarm in Liechtenstein.
What about a real siren alarm?
The siren tests in Liechtenstein and Switzerland always take place on the first Wednesday in February and are announced in each case. If the siren sounds without warning, it is a real alarm. This is a sign of impending danger. The population is then asked to listen to the radio (Radio Liechtenstein), to follow the instructions of the authorities and to inform the neighbors. Other information channels are the television channel 1 FL TV, the Alertswiss app and the Alertswiss website. In the event of a power failure, the police, fire brigade or community security service can also broadcast instructions on how to behave over loudspeakers.
Alertswiss app as an additional warning and information channel
The Alertswiss app from the Federal Office for Civil Protection FOCP is available free of charge Google play store and I am Apple App Store. They also warn the population in the event of small-scale events such as contaminated drinking water, village or forest fires and give recommendations on how to behave. If the emergency numbers fail, Alertswiss provides information about alternative contacts.
Introduction of emergency meeting points
Also on February 1, Liechtenstein will introduce emergency meeting points across the country. In the event of an incident, they are set up in public buildings such as school buildings or community halls. Here the population receives information and support. The emergency meeting points are designed for the dangers that are also relevant for Liechtenstein: longer power outages or the failure of ordinary means of communication such as mobile telephony. The authorities provide information via Radio Liechtenstein, television (1 FL TV), app and internet (Alertswiss) when the emergency meeting points are in operation. Each municipality has at least one emergency meeting point. The website will provide information from February 1st www.notfalltreffpunkt.li about the locations.
