Inspector street in Salzburg twice – and has now been convicted
On Thursday, a jury panel sentenced a 36-year-old Austrian to a suspended prison sentence of one year for wanting to cash in on drivers without a valid parking permit a second time. The judgment is final. In court, she says she was put under pressure by the security company and should distribute as many parking fines as possible.
Salzburg – On the criminal proceedings: The woman was an employee of the security company that is currently commissioned by the city of Salzburg to control both the short-term parking zones on the outskirts – three hours – and the fee zones in the city center throughout the city. In the period from September 2021 to December 2021, the woman, as an official body, again issued an illegal body mandate for 25 euros each for car drivers who had already been caught beforehand and had already paid.
For this purpose, she photographed old photos archived on her cell phone again and thus once again reported parking violations, which, however, did not exist in this way. A total of 55 cases of fraud have been documented. The motorists who were reported again naturally complained, THUS the dizziness started, but at least five victims are said to have paid a second time without complaining.
The employee of the security service, who has since been dismissed, appeared remorseful in front of the lay judges, she was sorry, but her boss had demanded “as many parking fines as possible” at the time, which is why she came up with this “stupid idea”.
City collects 5 million euros
Before Corona, the city of Salzburg issued around 36,000 organ mandates to illegal parkers, in 2020 it was “only” 25,500, which resulted in around 200,000 euros less income in the summer. However, the city suspended the controls during the numerous corona lockdowns. In total, the city takes in around 5 million euros in parking space management, including traffic tickets and criminal proceedings.
