Illegal working conditions: parcel service suspected
timeline
Undeclared work, bogus self-employment, weekly working hours of up to 77 hours – the financial police accuse a large parcel service provider in Salzburg of these and other abuses as well as massive violations of the law. The authorities issued a total of 50 reports.
The company became aware of advertisements and its own risk analysis, says Stefan Trittner, spokesman for the Ministry of Finance. 91 freighters and 20 other people were checked during this unannounced major inspection in December. Numerous violations were found at the Salzburg parcel service provider – for example against the social security, registration and motor vehicle law.
Dangerous working conditions in the driving service
Drivers were often only supposed to be on their own as hauliers. This was intended to evade taxes and duties, according to the allegations. According to investigators, some of the freighter statements are particularly alarming. Some said they worked up to 77 hours a week and had to sleep in a highway parking lot without accommodation. Others had spent the nights with up to seven people in a room in a dormitory.
Ad flood against parcel service
Supervisors would have owed fines of up to 500 euros if a tour was canceled due to illness or vacation. In total, there are now more than 50 notifications to the district administration authorities. In addition, the labor market service and the health insurance company were informed.
