Baumgart sees Selke as Tigges’ “attack partner”.
With centre-forward Davie Selke, 1. FC Köln have strengthened their attacking squad during the winter break. Quite a few, among others League Insider, have already seen the ex-Hertha player in the starting eleven before Baumgart’s unusual starting eleven disclosure. Steffen Tigges, seeded so far, has real competition too! If you think so… Coach Steffen Baumgart sees things a little differently.
“I would like to get away from the fact that Tigges got a competitor,” said Baumgart at the press conference after the 7-1 win against Werder Bremen. the coach sees a storm partner for Tigges in Selke. “We have also said that it is possible to play with both. And we will do that too!”
So it’s only a matter of time before Selke and Tigges are together in the Cologne starting XI. The duo were in the starting line-up in the last test match of the winter preparations against the Belgian club Lommel SK. However, one thing is also clear: as long as Cologne is successful with its current line-up, there is not much reason to change anything. Nonetheless, the burden of the English week is high.
Incidentally, Tigges in particular had looked very good in the 7-1 win against Bremen. The attacker by League Insider scored 1.0 was involved in almost all of the goals. “He developed further in training and wrote about his processes. That’s exactly what we want to see from him,” Baumgart said happily.
