A man threatens suicide from the monumental bridge, the mayor of Genoa convinces him to give up
A man threatens to jump off the Monumental bridge, which overlooks the central Venti Settembre in Genoa, and the mayor convinces him to give up. An itinerant trader, who has already threatened to jump off that bridge on other occasions, due to the administrative detention, due to irregularities, of his van with which he sells street food, has kept the firefighters and the police in check for a large part of last night. The firefighters also blocked the street below, one of the main arteries of the city until this morning, having mounted the tarp under the bridge to attract the fall of the man, and save his life, in case he decided to jump.
Around 9 this morning, the mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, who lives not far away, arrived on the bridge and began talking to the man, setting up a meeting for him at Palazzo Tursi and guaranteeing that he would take care of his case: at that point the man, PM, agreed to pick up the help offered by the firefighters and moved to a safe area. Already in 2019, the mayor had intervened, precisely with the same person, and on the same bridge, to convince him to change his mind and not throw himself into the void. “I just want to work, I’ve never broken the law – the man said to Mayor Bucci – but there is a law that prevents me from practicing my job, because I transport gas cylinders”. On the bridge, following the latest events since the night, the man’s wife remained, who then thanked the mayor.
