Year 2022: Unemployment fell for 11 months, Slovakia has 22,000 fewer unemployed people – Sereď online
ÚPSVR SR |MM| The registered unemployment rate in Slovakia stabilized at 5.90 percent at the end of the year. For the third month in a row, it remained below the 6 percent threshold. During the last year, unemployment decreased month-on-month for 11 months, rising slightly only once – in December, by 0.07 final point. For the entire year 2022, the number of registered job applicants decreased by 22,082 persons, i.e. by more than 11.03 percent.
In a year-on-year comparison, unemployment continues to decline for the 16th month in a row. Compared to December 2021, it was 0.86 of the highest point lower. Along with unemployment, the number of job seekers also saw a significant decrease during the past year. For the entire year 2022, it decreased by 22,082 persons, i.e. by more than 11.03 percent. Compared to the beginning, there were also significantly fewer applicants in the register of people unemployed for more than 12 months, citizens older than 50, or young people under the age of 29. The number of vacancies increased by more than 10,000 year-on-year in December and reached a value of 81,699. Unemployment and the number of job seekers also increased in 2021. The registered unemployment rate decreased by 0.81 percentage points during 2021, the number of persons in the register of job applicants decreased by 27,116.
“In the field of employment, the years 2021 and 2022 were clearly successful for Slovakia. Taking into account the sudden need that last year brought us, last year was a success. During the year, more than 22,000 Slovaks lost their jobs in Slovakia. To illustrate the share of the Department of Labor in this result, I will state how our activities helped last year. For the 12th of 2022, as part of the current measures on the labor market, we have allocated almost 178 million euros in order to obtain 35,000 job seekers within approximately 25,000 jobs. said Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family Milan Krajniak.
The Director General of the Labor, Social Affairs and Family Headquarters, Karol Zimmer, added information about the activities that the headquarters and employment offices focused on for the improvement of disadvantaged people on the labor market or prevention. “We successfully progressed in the Seize Your Chances project, and in 2022 we launched two new projects – Activation of disadvantaged job seekers and Practice for young people. I am convinced that these projects have contributed to the reduction of the number of disadvantaged job applicants in the applicant register at the offices. I am also pleased by the growing interest in the breakthrough project Don’t lose your job – educate yourself, the first preventive project of its kind in Slovakia, which gives the opportunity to obtain additional education free of charge for people who are employed, are on maternity leave and are thinking about changing jobs in their lives. ” added Zimmer.
Matěj Bělín, an analyst at the Institute of Social Policy, also positively evaluates the development of the labor market last year. “It should be mentioned that in the first 11 months we observed a monthly decrease in unemployment, which is clearly positive news after the recent difficulties in the labor market. The number of unemployed decreased, including among disadvantaged job seekers. The number of unemployed unemployed decreased by more than 20% during the year 2022, the number of registered school graduates by 16% and the number of job seekers over 50 by 13%. In November, the rate of registered unemployment in all regions fell below the 10% mark and remained below it even after a slight increase in December. The key influences behind the MEN in 2022, which significantly increases the labor market, can be considered the abatement of the COVID-19 epidemic as well as stabilization measures for energy prices. Active measures on the labor market provided by employment offices will also contribute to the future development of unemployment,” the analyst evaluated the year 2022. Despite the slight month-on-month increase in unemployment at the end of last year, I expect the number of people without work to decrease again soon. “Both December and January values tend to show an increase in unemployment, which will bring a further increase in the unemployment rate in the following month. According to our models, this increase should not reach 0.1 maximum point compared to December. From February, he predicts a return to falling unemployment for relatively the same development of other indicators, such as a slight increase in the Economic Sentiment Indicator for the month of December.” concluded Bělín.
