Six defendants in the case that led to searches at the Lisbon Chamber
“Following the searches, today, the Public Prosecutor’s Office validated the constitution of six defendants, three companies and their legal representatives“, indicated the PGR to RTP, without adding any further information.
On Wednesday, TVI/CNN Portugal had reported that the Judiciary Police carried out searches in the Lisbon Chamber for “suspicions of corruption, economic participation in business and counterfeiting”, in an appointment for “provision of services that was signed in 2015” by the then mayor, Fernando Medina (PS), who is now finance minister.
Medina indicated on Thursday that he is available to provide clarifications to the Attorney General’s Office. The same did Joaquim Morão: the former mayor of Castelo Branco and Idanha-a-Nova guarantees that he will collaborate with the investigation that led the Judiciary Police to search the Lisbon City Council.
The inquiry in question seeks to determine the legality of the contracts concluded by direct agreement by the hand of Fernando Medina when the current Minister of Finance presided over the autarchy.
The ruler admits that he himself chose the socialist Joaquim Morão to coordinate works in the county.
