Turismo Centro de Portugal expects more visits from Spaniards in 2023
“The Centro de Portugal brand envisages participating” in this year’s edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is taking place, “with increased responsibility”, said the president of the Regional Entity of Turismo Centro de Portugal (TCP) .
Cited in a statement, Pedro Machado highlights “the strategic importance of eastern tourism in Spain”, which is the “most significant” foreign market for the center of the country, which includes part of the district of Aveiro.
The spaces guarantee “more than one million overnight stays” in the Center of Portugal according to the latest official statistics, with good expectations for an increase.
According to the president of TCP, the first days of FITUR already made us feel, clearly, that 2023 will be a year of very positive growth at this level, in line with the recovery that was already felt in 2022″.
Regarding his presence at the Madrid fair, Pedro Machado also highlights “the bilateral and multilateral meetings that we hold with partners allow us to deepen relationships and create opportunities for companies in the sector”, which is why the fair is considered “absolutely strategic for the Center of Portugal” .
FITUR, aimed at the professional public, opened its doors on the 18th of January, running until the next 22nd.
A total of 8,500 participants from 131 countries are present at the fair, which has 755 main exhibitors and 66,900 m2 of exhibition space.
» In the first days of the event, TCP participated with the tourism regions of Castile and León and Porto and Northern Portugal in a meeting within the scope of the European Project POCTEP 2022-2027, which “aims to develop the great potential of the Duero-Douro geographic space , both in tourist and socio-economic terms.”
» The second collaborative moment took place within the framework of the “Biosphere Destination Community” Meeting, which brings together the destinations of the international Biosphere network – those that are tolerantly committed to fulfilling the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Centro Portugal’s ambition is to become “the first tourist region with the Biosphere seal”;
» FITUR served to present the Joint Strategy for the Sustainability of Cross-border Tourism between Portugal and Spain 2022-2023, with the participation of the Spanish Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto Illera, and the Minister of Economy and Portuguese sea, António Costa e Silva.
