South of Toulouse, a building bought by the town hall of Nailloux completely destroyed by the flames
About thirty firefighters, from several nearby barracks, intervened last night to fight the fire that ravaged a house in the city center, which we announced on this same site last night. Of this house, recently acquired by the municipality, only the walls remain.
A violent fire ravaged, last night, a large inhabited house in the city center of Nailloux, located at 24 rue de la République.
In the evening of Wednesday, around 10 p.m., a neighbor had of course heard some explosions, while he was walking his dog like every evening in the garden, at the back of his house, but he had simply attributed them to birthday crackers. It was only when he got home that he learned of the disaster, when he was asked to leave his house urgently to take shelter from the danger caused by the house fire. opposite, the framework of which was already in flames.
Four fire stations and the gendarmes mobilized
Immediately alerted, the emergency services arrived in force, mobilizing firefighters from the Cintegabelle, Villefranche-de-Lauragais, Ramonville and Toulouse Atlanta barracks. Their intervention lasted all night, requiring a diversion of traffic, and it was not until the early morning that the fire was brought under control and the site was secured. The firefighters nevertheless specified that the structure of the house was weakened by the disaster.
At the same time, the gendarmes of the Villefranche company intervened by prohibiting the circulation of all vehicles on this very busy main axis and by making the first observations. An investigation will be opened to determine the origins of the disaster.
This building, a large mansion from the beginning of the 19th century, was part of a building complex located along the rue de la République, also comprising annexes, garages and a vast park of nearly 3,000m2 which is extends at the back to the Esplanade de la Fraternité.
A municipal project on the site
This building being unoccupied since the death of its owner, the town hall had exercised its right of pre-emption on the whole, pre-emption carried by the Public Land Establishments (EPF) which had acquired the whole on behalf of the town hall.
As part of the revitalization of its town centre, the municipality of Nailloux wishes to encourage the development of new businesses, secure soft paths and “renature” public space. Thus the garages adjoining the building must be demolished to make way for a new traffic lane depending on the Place de la Fraternité and the rue de la République. As for the park, whose landscape interest is undeniable, its development is in progress so as to create a wooded area in the city center which should be open to the public.
