In their final fifth match in the basic B-group, they claimed their second loss. After it, they remained on the 2nd place in the promotion, from which the Americans could place them. They lost one point to the Slovaks and on Thursday from 15.30 CET they had a duel with Hungary.
On Wednesday, the Americans lost to Kazakhstan 1:4, and this result, combined with the expected victory of the overseas team over Hungary, moves Slovakia’s chances of advancing to a theoretical level only.
The Slovaks were losing 0:2 in the match and although they managed to turn it around to 4:3, they finally lost the tight one. They came up three points short of victory in the final seconds of regular time. Finally, they couldn’t even manage separate raids, in which they lost 2:3.

Votes after the match (source: hockeyslovakia.sk):
Rastislav Paľov, SR coach: “The boys could feel that the game Kazakhstan – USA (4:1) fell to our disadvantage. It was difficult to concentrate and it was visible in the first period. The boys fought, but it is difficult to play knowing that you have lost the chance to advance. Despite that’s what we wanted to win and we were close to it. In the end, the Koreans played without a goalie and in such moments they have to try to win the puck on the stick. There we should have simply thrown it into the middle zone and not tried to play hockey until the last second.”
Lukáš Kuba, scorer of three Slovak goals: “I’m certainly looking forward to the hat-trick, but especially the start of the match didn’t go well for us at all. We didn’t start well and conceded two goals. From the second period on, we showed that we know how to play hockey. We had many chances, we scored some goals and it’s a shame that the victory it went away in the last seconds. It’s a sad ending, but overall I’ll remember this tournament fondly.”
