Toulouse: petition, leaflets and public meeting against the ZFE
A campaign of citizen petitions calls for a moratorium on the application of the ZFE in Toulouse. A citizen collective will be created and will meet on January 24, 2023 at the “hangar” de la Cépière, in Toulouse.
“No to a freedom-killing, unequal and discriminatory ZFE. Yes to a future environmental and socially respectable ZFE”. This is the title of the citizens’ petition and the leaflet launched by JP Bataille and Bernard Marquié, ex-deputy (PCF) to the mayor of Toulouse in charge of traffic and parking, and ex-vice-president of Tisséo, who to discuss it: “Faced with the rise of discontent with the first measures which are materializing, we are unaware of the creation of a citizen collective which meets on January 24, 2023 at the “hangar” of the Cépière”.
40% of vehicles prohibited in 80% of the territory of Toulouse
“Toulouse prohibits its free to more than 40% of vehicles registered in Haute-Garonne judged as too polluting. And this without any consideration of the current social climate”, we read in the leaflet distributed, “since 1uh January 2023 Crit’Air 4 and 5 vehicles are prohibited from driving and parking in 80% of the territory of the city of Toulouse under penalty of sanctions. And the 1uh January 2024 it will be the turn of the Crit’Air 3. Whether we are therefore owners or simple users of a vehicle classified Crit’Air 3-4-5, Toulouse residents or living on the outskirts, the city will be in fact forbidden to us. This affects all low-income citizens who have no alternative solution for changing vehicles and who will find themselves unable to move freely to go to work, look for a job, seek treatment, go shopping or carry out other displacements”, argue the authors of the movement.
A discriminatory measure for the most modest
“A measure of this dimension should not be incorporated without taking alternative measures, allowing everyone to adapt; it is socially discriminating to exclude those who cannot afford a good Crit sticker” Air or use public transport that does not
are not at the level to allow everyone to use them permanently (…) The aid put in place for Toulouse residents is not acceptable for small budgets (and) not suitable for the greatest number (…) Deploy CCTV cameras in 2024 to track all our movements and legitimately verbalize us repressive policies”, concluding the authors who evoke “a deprivation of the right to move and circular for low-income populations”.
