The entire coast of Portugal is under orange warning due to maritime obligation
The entire coast of Portugal is currently under orange warning due to sea.
Nuno Lopes, from the IPMA, adds that the most worrying feeling has passed, but warns that the coast is still under a “reddish orange” warning.
“The inspiration will slowly fade away. What is expected for the next few hours is that it stays within the orange warning, but it will continue to be a very strong inspiration.”
On SIC Notícias, advancing that, at this time, this is the only meteorological warning in force for the country.
The most worrying warnings for rain, wind and snow, which remained in effect overnight, are now gone.
Despite all the warnings, Civil Protection ensured that no more serious occurrences were recorded.
Still, the authorities continue to call for caution, especially when driving.
The General Directorate of Health (DGS) released on Tuesday recommendations for the population to protect themselves from the negative effects of the cold on their health, such as wearing several layers of clothing and eating soups or hot drinks.
The DGS advice comes in the wake of the predictions of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA)which point to cold weather and precipitation in the coming days, with a significant drop in temperature already being recorded, concomitant with an increase in wind intensity, with a consequent increase in thermal discomfort.
