Cirque du Soleil in Masterclass in Avignon!
From January 15 to 28, seize circus artists have been selected to participate in a Masterclass, supervised by Cirque du Soleil teachers, who have come specially from Montreal. A training they pay 52 euros. An idea carried by Laurent Michelier, the director of the ANT of Avignon. “The idea of this training is also that circus companies like Cirque du Soleil may use our database if one day they are missing someone on a show.”
So the students study three very specific and sought-after disciplines: the Korean board, the tournik and the hoop diving. This Tuesday, they were training on the Korean board. Aourell is one of the sixteen students selected out of the sixty applicants, she is a student at the National School of Circus Arts.
“There in two days I learned to push the aerialist with whom I have worked for two years, while I was struggling, they were able to give me the right advice.” André Saint-Jean is one of the teachers of the masterclass: “my job is to refine their technique so that they can really be effective”.
Advice that Omry takes preciously, also a student. “André Saint Jean is a bit like the Jedi master of the seesaw and there we are in the process of applying for higher circus schools, so that gives us a little boost.” A boost for students and a breeding ground for circus companies.
