Dogs dead in Florence, there was strychnine in the meatballs. The League: “Reclaim all areas”
Statements by the group leader in Palazzo Vecchio della Lega, Federico Bussolin and by the group leader in District 4 of the League, Davide Bisconti
“The second autopsy brings to everyone’s attention the problem of poisoning of 4 legs in the city, as the veterinary manager in charge of the Tuscany territorial operational unit clarified to the local press. 3 autopsies were performed on two dogs (Zelda, 30 December in the park of San Bartolo and Wendi, 6 January in the gardens of Argingrosso) and a magpie (9 January via Simone Martini) and from the definitive results it is now certain that the three animals ingested baits poisoned with strychnine. No abnormal spreading of the poisonous substance. It was the, unfortunately known, poisoned “meatballs”. Our strong protest implemented in recent days, to raise awareness of the Municipality and the population, and also resulted in a Lega Presidio in front of the Towers dog area, was unfortunately right.
“It is therefore necessary to keep our attention high and not stop the checks. We make a heartfelt appeal to Mayor and Assessor Giorgio to close all the dog areas of the city and immediately clean them all without distinction. The Municipality needs to grant the certainty of giving at least some safe, controlled spaces! We cannot live in the hope that one or more madmen will stop acting. Whoever carries out these barbarities knows no rest. A fool does not stop with words or announcements!”
“Finally, we ask that the Municipality also mobilize the Municipal Police Officers, in plain clothes, for checks in order to monitor the territory and the dog areas during the next few days, in order to create a deterrent against these crazy gestures. At least where our 4-legged friends are more present and numerous, we need to watch carefully. More deaths we can’t afford. It would be a sign that this Administration has underestimated the risks and the current problem”
