From 6 pm this Monday, with the approach of a cold frontal surface, interruptions of rain are expected on the continent, especially in the north and center regions, warns the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) in a press release sent to newsrooms.
This is because “the weather in mainland Portugal will be influenced by the joint action of an anticyclone located in the Azores region and the Fien depression, inducing a strong northwesterly current over the continent with the transport of a maritime polar air mass”.
As of Tuesday, it is expected that the frontal surface will move from north to south, with forecast of showers and snowfall above 800/1100 meters of altitude in the north and center, gradually lowering the elevation to 500/700 meters of altitude, being able to collect objects on the ground.
The temperature will drop significantly between the 17th and 19th, with minimum temperature values below 5 °C in most of the territory, between -5 and 0 °C in the interior north and center, and between 5 and 8 °C in the regions from the coast.

According to the IPMA, the strong wind will contribute to “greater thermal discomfort”.
